Bamboo Scroll Vietnamese Silk Hand Painting

By admin on May 25, 2009 | In A Serenity Lifestyle, Asian Art, Gifts for the Soul, News

The traditional Vietnamese art of silk painting has become famous around the world for its simple poetic themes and vibrant colors. The success of a silk painting very much depends on the quality of the silk, and this depends on many factors, from the quality of cocoons to the decisive techniques of starching and weaving.

Differently with other kinds of paintings, the silk canvas are usually not painted. The Vietnamese traditional silk painting style tends to use the silk canvas directly as the background of the painting. The colors are used delicately with the canvas to make Vietnamese silk paintings.

The delicate white color found in the sky, water, or human portrait, is the color of silk. The color of silk is well known to describe human figure in the paintings of many famous Vietnamese artists. Delicate color and silk background give the paintings such an harmony with the nature. Whatever style they follow, silk painters must have an intimate knowledge of the material and fully exploit its shininess and its attractiveness. Painting silk is full of changing and unexpected characteristics, and a wrong stroke of the brush is irreversible.

Creating a Serenity Lifestyle......Sarongs

By admin on May 17, 2009 | In A Serenity Lifestyle, About our Products, Jewelry & Adornments, Sarongs, News

Sarongs are one of the most widely used garments in the world.
Sarongs are traditionally worn by men, women and children throughout Asia, Africa and Polynesia. They have a variety of uses and are quickly becoming popular throughout the rest of the world. If you don’t use your sarong at the beach, use it as a table covering, furniture throw or wall hanging.

The fabric used in a North American sarong is usually light, like rayon and are quite hip. But more importantly, they are comfortable and very adorable!

Sarongs are single pieces of fabric that are wrapped around the waist and worn as full body wraps or skirts by both men and women in Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands and India (in the Western world, they’re generally worn only by women). Sarongs are often brightly colored and have detailed patterns (usually flowers, geometric shapes or tie-dyed).

Geography

There are many different types of sarongs out there. Some sarongs have straight edges, while others come with decorative fringe on their ends. Some sarongs come in solid, plain colors, while others are decorated with intricate patterns. There are also very long sarongs, while some sarongs are so short they can barely be wrapped around the body.

Potential
Sarongs have a lot of potential as outfits. They can be worn for casual wear, and are also great for beach attire (many people wear sarongs over their swimsuits when they’re relaxing on the beach). They are also terrific respectful apparel for visiting mosques or temples. Not to mention, sarongs are so comfortable that they are ideal to wear on long plane, train or car rides.

Considerations
If you have more sarongs than you know what to do with, never fret, as sarongs have countless practical and fun applications other than simply being clothes. They can be shower curtains, gift wrap, play blankets for kids, towels, pillow cover ups, furniture cover ups and much more.

We carry a large variety of Sarongs styles at Serenity’s Journey.
